House Hopeful Brown Has Plan to Create Jobs, Protect Michigan Workers
Plan fights outsourcing, prepares workers for good-paying jobs now

WEST BLOOMFIELD – State House candidate Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) today announced her plan to stimulate the economy and help move Michigan forward by creating good-paying jobs now for Michigan workers. Brown’s plan rewards companies that create jobs for Michigan workers, fosters entrepreneurship and ensures that Michigan has the well-educated and highly trained workforce needed in the 21st century global economy.

“Michigan residents are struggling to make ends meet as the unemployment rate continues to rise,” said Brown, a candidate in the 39th House District, covering West Bloomfield, Commerce Township and Wolverine Lake. “I’ve seen the hundreds of ‘For Sale’ and foreclosure signs littered throughout our neighborhoods and I’ve seen the cost of a gallon of gas continue to go up with no end in sight. We must do everything we can to reverse this economic crisis and support the hard-working families that drive our economy.”

Brown’s job-creation plan will:

  • Give preference for tax breaks and other economic development tools to companies that hire Michigan residents.
  • Encourage job creation by fostering entrepreneurship.
  • Create a more business-friendly environment in Michigan to attract 21st century job providers by reducing the tax burden on businesses.
  • Expand the No Worker Left Behind program and other retraining programs for our workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own.
  • Create a 401(k)-style investment plan for small businesses and their employees.

The plan is part of Brown’s sweeping “New Michigan Now” campaign that aims to reform Michigan government, strengthen education and expand the role of renewable energy in Michigan.

Brown is making her second run at the State House seat in the 39th District after narrowly losing to a first-term incumbent in 2006. A Realtor with Max Broock Realtors and mother of three, Brown has deep roots in the community and knows how important it is to turn our state around to keep our youngest and brightest workers here in Michigan. She is a member of Adat Shalom and has done extensive volunteer work in the community. A strong proponent of the potentially life-saving benefits of stem-cell research, Brown will focus on bringing more cutting-edge jobs in fast-growing fields such as life sciences and renewable energy to Oakland County.

“I believe in Michigan and I believe in our workers,” Brown said. “Now is the time to take real action to boost our economy and move Michigan forward. As your State Representative, I will fight to get our workers back on the job and help build a new Michigan we can all be proud of.”
