FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Brown Calls for Mayor Kilpatrick to Step Down for Good of the State WEST BLOOMFIELD – As Michigan’s working families continue to struggle during these difficult economic times, State House candidate Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) today called on Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to step down so the state can focus on diversifying its economy and creating good-paying jobs now. “Mayor Kilpatrick’s legal problems have become a serious problem for all of Wayne County, and it’s time for him to step aside,” said Brown, a candidate in the 39th House District, which covers West Bloomfield and Commerce Township. “With so many workers in need of jobs and so many of our working families struggling to make ends meet, we must focus all of our efforts on fixing our economy. The mayor’s problems are a distraction. He should resign so we can get back to work fixing Michigan.” On March 24, Kilpatrick was charged with eight felony counts including perjury, misconduct in office and obstruction of justice, stemming from testimony he gave in a whistleblower trial. He has since been accused of violating his bail conditions and assaulting a Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy. “The cities and townships surrounding Detroit are turning into collateral damage,” Brown said. “Michigan’s reputation is being harmed as Kwame Kilpatrick’s legal troubles land him in the news practically every day. His actions are hampering our ability to move forward as a state. For the good of Michigan, Kwame Kilpatrick should resign as mayor.” |
