Lisa is proud to be serving as the Oakland County Clerk and Register of Deeds. She was honored to stand with Mark Schauer as his running mate in the 2014 campaign for Governor. Previously, Lisa served as State Representative for Michigan’s 39th District from 2009 to 2012, which included Commerce Township, West Bloomfield and Wolverine Lake. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and the Detroit College of Law, and a member of the State Bar of Michigan. A lifelong resident of Oakland County, Lisa lives in West Bloomfield with her husband and their sons. She attends Adat Shalom Synagogue and serves on the Board of Directors of JARC.
While in the Michigan House of Representatives, Lisa fought to ensure all children receive a high quality education, ban street drugs like K2/spice and BZP, provide healthcare coverage for children with autism, repeal drug industry immunity, protect the environment, and bring accountability and transparency to government. Lisa has also been a strong voice for equality, women’s rights and equal pay. She received national attention in June 2012 when she was banned from speaking on the House floor for saying “vagina” as she spoke out against the most restrictive anti-choice legislation in the country.
Some of Lisa’s honors include the Equality Michigan “Catalyst Award,” Progress Michigan “Outstanding Advocate for Progressive Values in the Michigan Legislature” award, the “Heroes Award” from Michigan’s Children, the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools “Friend of Education” award, the Justice Caucus’ “Spirit of Millie Jeffrey Award,” the Michigan NOW “Activist of the Year,” and the UAW Region 1 Women’s Council “Woman of the Year.” She has also been featured in Marie Claire Magazine as a “Super Woman” and on More Magazine’s “Fierce List.”
